World Championships ~ Lausanne

Philippe Lanuox recently completed in the ITU world championships

Well...my first World Championships are done and dusted, with the honor of wearing the Green and Gold and competing for Australia.
Leading into this weekend I was strangely relaxed, I had settled into the time zone and ticked off my pre race training sets, and was feeling pretty good about having a good hit out. I think mentally I took the pressure off myself for this race, with the seasons focus really being aimed at Nice IM70.3. As normal though, the nerves started to kick in Saturday, watching and cheering on the Aussie Sprint competitors, checking in the bike, having a swim in the lake. It was all getting pretty real. A typical restless night then capped of my pre race jitters.

It may have been cold and windy, however some of the team braved the cold and rode Murrarie to Nudgee. The first time riding over the bridge for one of our juniors.

Andrew Nash: Race Report
First IRONMAN 70.3
Picture
Friday - 6hr drive from Brisbane to Port Mac first up was the 3hr round trip to drop off the kids at grandparents, 9 hr in the car is a great way to start the weekend. As well I couldn't find my driver’s license (photo ID required for check in) thankfully my wife had my passport hidden so that problem was solved. We arrived in Port and went to bed missing out on the club dinner.
Saturday - A nice 7am swim in the beautiful Hasting River temp was 18/19 deg, glad for the wet-suit, and it was raining. And it rained all day!!!!!! Did all the 1st timers things Q&A session, Transition tour, drove the bike course and rode up and down the hill on Matthew Flinders Dr (look it up on U-Tube) a few times. Unpacked all my gear and repacked it making sure I had everything (about 3 times). Too late now if I left anything in Brisbane......
Note - Your wet-suit wont dry if it’s raining all day!!!!
Sunday - Race Day Clear skies. Everything going well until I climbed into a wet wet-suit. Well I'll be swimming soon (who cares). Out of the water in 40min flat GREAT!!! (40min 50sec), I surprised myself. Then onto the bike, it started off well. Stuck to my plan for the feed stations and hydration,

Anthony Fletcher: Race Report
Ironman Australia 6th time, 8th Ironman overall
Picture

It has been a long build up to this years Ironman and as usual race day doesn’t disappoint always throwing something different your way and challenging you and giving you new learnings to take into the next one. Allow me to digress while I take you on the journey just to get to the start line of this one. There were moments where I thought circumstances would mean that I may not make the start line. At the end of the day while we endure a lot and put our families through absence and fitting things in around our training, family is the most important thing and I wouldn’t bat an eyelid to put them first and not start if I had to.

You see out family has had more challenges than most in this campaign. My wife was diagnosed with MS at the end of 2017 with autoimmune lesions in the base of her brain stem which have increasingly seen her afflicted with severe neuropathic pain in her left side, mostly head and arm every few hours. While Helene has been an absolute warrior in facing this pain it has had a large effect on the rest of the household both emotionally and supporting her through this time. It got so severe that we had to leave Mooloolaba the day before the Olympic Distance Triathlon in March and go straight to the ER.
